Who was Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec?

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) was a French Post-Impressionist painter, printmaker and illustrator, born into an aristocratic family in Albi. A childhood illness left him with short stature, and he found his true home in the bohemian world of Montmartre, immortalising its cabarets, dance halls and performers in vivid colour and confident line.

His posters for venues like the Moulin Rouge revolutionised commercial art and turned advertising into a respected art form. He died at just 36, but left one of the most influential bodies of work in modern graphic design.
